Merimbula Jazz Festival

JAZZ IN JUNE

The 30th Merimbula Jazz Festival takes place from Friday 11th to Monday 14th June 2010. The jazz kicks off at 5 pm on Friday afternoon in 8 great venues, situated in modern Clubs with home comforts, plenty of food and drinks continually available and parking areas adjoining. Wheelchair access is possible to all venues.

           

The venues include The Club Sapphire (Bowling Club), RSL Club, Pambula-Merimbula Golf Club ( all 2 venues each ), the Lakeview Hotel and Twyford Hall . The latter being the historical venue for the Festival for the past 30 years. The Golf Club is about 4 km south of town, with a continuous and free bus service available from the bus stop directly outside Twyford Hall and picking up and dropping patrons off at predetermined convenient locations along the route from before the start of the program until after it ends.

All styles of Jazz including Traditional, Swing, Big Band, Modern, Mainstream, Funk and ‘Other’. Music finishes around midnight and resumes Saturday with a Jazz Breakfast from 8am to 10am in one of the clubs (to be announced ) followed by the Merimbula Jazz Festival Parade of Musicians, Belles and Beaus of various Jazz Clubs at 11am and an ‘All in Blow’ at the end of the Parade, until about 12 Noon when the Program starts again, until midnight.

           

Sunday program starts at about 11am at the Ecumenical Church Service at 11:30 am in the Catholic Church opposite the RSL Club until 12:30pm. Meanwhile the program continues until 12 midnight in all the venues listed in the Program Book supplied with the admission badge.

Following the third day of jazz, holiday Monday’s entertainment is found at the Merimbula Jazz Festival Picnic, starting at 11am at the Pambula- Merimbula Golf Club. On the rolling manicured lawn of the practice fairway, out in the winter sunshine and entertained by about 6 bands until 4pm, with food and drinks all available at this Club, comfortable facilities and again plenty of parking. The Program unfortunately comes to an end for another year at 4 pm.

           

Patrons are requested not to bring alcohol into any of the venues involved with the Merimbula Jazz Festival.

Entry fees for the Festival are $80 per person for the jazz lovers, school children are free provided that they are accompanied by an adult, musicians participating in the program, their fee is $10 each and another $35 for their partner (if any). Day Passes are available from the program commencement but part days or entry for one set only is not available. Special child entertainment or child minding facilities are not provided.

           

The Merimbula Jazz Festival Committee would be delighted to entertain you for the equivalent of 3 days on the Far South Sapphire Coast of good fun, friendship and enjoyable music, at a very reasonable cost of $80 per head with other entertainment provided close by.
