Merimbula Walks

Merimbula Boardwalk Walking Track

This walk can be started or finished in either two places.  You can start the walk either next to the bridge in Market Street, Merimbula (there is a small car park there) or at Top Lake Boat Hire, Lakewood Drive, (off Monaro Street).   For those who are looking for exercise, it is a good idea to start at the bridge, walk to Top Lake Boat Hire (which is as far as it goes) and then back again.  The walk is around 3.4 km return and will take you about 1-2 hours if you are walking at a fast pace.  For those who have small children with them I would suggest starting at the other end (Top Lake Boat Hire) that way you can go as far as the kids can manage and still make it back to the Boat Hire for a much needed ice lolly, milkshake, coffee  or whatever takes your fancy.  The cafe at Top Lake Boat Hire caters for breakfast, lunches, cakes,  ice lollies, milkshakes and delicious iced coffees.  Enjoy a treat whilst you relax on the deck of this charming cafe and enjoy the tranquil setting.  This fantastic boardwalk is great for pushchairs and even bikes if the kids are old enough to control them and not end up in the water!  Along the way are numerous signs pointing out the local vegetation and marine life.  Expect to see crabs, pelicans, birds and fish swimming underneath the boardwalk as you stroll on by.  This is an easy, enjoyable walk for anyone and gives you fabulous views over the lake and towards the airport.  At sunset this walk is a sight to behold.

Top Lake Boat Hire hires out motor Boats, Pedal Boats, Canoes, Kayaks & Row Boats.

Rotary Park to Bar Beach/Wharf

Starting at the Rotary Park car park (adjacent to Spencer Park) Merimbula this walk will guide you through the twists and turns of lush vegetation, down steps, along bridges until you arrive at the picturesque Bar Beach.  The walk is quite secluded and hard to see from the road as it has been cut out of the rock and takes you along the very edge of the ocean.  Part of this pretty walk almost makes you feel you are in the middle of a tropical rainforest.   The ground can be uneven, parts drop away and the steps quite steep so not ideal for small children but from around 6 yrs upwards (and if they like walking) this could be a wondrous adventure for any child.  Pack your bathers and a towel as you are sure to want a swim at Bar Beach when you come out of the clearing and see the pristine waters below you.

For those who wish to continue on to the Wharf, proceed down the hill once you have reached Bar Beach and you will see the walk continues on the opposite side, it is sign-posted.  The track finishes just short of the Wharf and the last part is road.  On your way, you will come across a lookout which gives sweeping views across the Bay to Pambula Beach.

Distance:
Time:   Approx. 45 minutes to Bar Beach, another 20 minutes on to the Wharf
Level of fitness required:   Medium, some steps and uneven ground
How to get there:   Just after Spencer Park, turn right into the Rotary Park car park.  On the far left (if you are facing the water) you will see the start of the walk (see picture).
