Ask any serious surfer anywhere in the Australia and he or she will tell you that the Far South Coast of NSW has some of the biggest and powerfullest waves in the surfing world.
This section of Australia wilderness coast has some of the most consistent surf on the planet. Its been blessed with the cleanest waters the Pacific Ocean has to offer, it's tucked away between National Parks and is nowhere near any crowded major capital city, its quite a rare find to surf reefs and beach breaks which aren’t crowded in todays surfing world, the Merimbula Bermagui Region can offer the real surfer that magic moment of having the ocean to one self

The annual Malibu contest is held in Merimbula each year and this year is the events 24th year, this contest can attract over 70 contestants. (See the link below for more details)
This year (2010) will also see the 30th Merimbula Classic held in November at Main Beach. 180 kite surfers, wave sailors and Stand Up Paddle surfers (SUPS) from all over the globe gather to collect $40,000 worth of prizes. It’s a four day event held at Merimbula or nearby beaches which turn on a variety of conditions for each class of surfing, strong southerly winds which hit beaches that time of year makes it an ideal surfing playground.

Its quite rare to find the beaches flat for more than just a couple of days as the swell is so consistent, for the biggest and most spectacular waves winter and spring is the time when for the large swells, during the summer and autumn months the swells smaller but its still great challenge, there is a wide variety of difficulty waves up and down the coast which suits the experience surfer but for the beginners there are a number of small to medium beach breaks on offer.
