Tathra is 23kms north from Merimbula.  Drive along the Sapphire Coast Road, turn right at the end and this will take you to this spectacular town with magnificent views and clean beaches. Tathra Beach is 3kms long and is patrolled during the busy summer months by Lifeguards from the Tathra Surf Club. You will find playgrounds for the kids, toilets facilities and modern BBQ areas for family get togethers. Tathra Beach also has its own Skatepark for the keen skateboarders, bikers or scooters.

Tathra has its own launching ramp at Kianinny Bay which gives you access to the Pacific Ocean.  There is also beach fishing, rockfishing or try your luck at prawning at the River Mouth. Another great spot to drop a line quickly is at the restored Tathra Wharf.  Not only can you catch some big fish and enjoy the peaceful outlook but the Wharf has a maritme museum, refreshments, crafts and souvenirs.

The Tathra Wharf has been recognised by the National Trust as playing some part in Tathra's history as it is the only remaining steamer wharf on Australia's vast coastline and is classified by the Trust.

At Mogareet Inlet where the Bega River joins the sea you'll find another boat launching ramp which has access to the river.  Locals and tourists enjoy this area for river fishing, water skiing, windsurfing and canoeing. It has shallow water with sandy beaches and BBQ's, picnic area, playground and modern toilets.  A great spot for a family adventure.

Tathra has its own 9 hole golf course at the Tathra Country Club and the Tathra Bowling club welcomes all bowlers to its three bowling greens and tennis courts. Tathra has a variety of art and craft galleries and places to eat.

You can also take in the natural environment by venturing into the local National Parks such as Bourda National Park or Mimosa Rocks National Park. These parks attract campers and walkers for the extensive network of tracks as well as birdwatchers. See the rugged coastline, natural lagoons, caves and beaches all to be  explored. Tathra Forest Wildlife Reserve is also a wonderful place to visit and don't forget the Kangarutha Walking Track with spectacular views of the coastline.  The track is 9kms and takes in a diverse mixture of terrains and scenery (for more information click Sapphire Coast Walks on the menu on the left).
